While in Manila, we went to the National Museum—completely empty on boxing day. I wasn’t expecting anything special, but they had a retrospective of Salvacion Lim Higgins’ work.

The immaculate construction and mastery of draping, the rich materials and detailing worthy of any couture house, and the visionary use of elements from foreign and Philippine cultures, including an update of the maria clara style—Filipinos should be so proud.

Sadly, I had to check my camera at the door; but Rajo Laurel’s photos will give you a good idea.
