My brother (If you're Canadian, plaid never goes out of style) has been introducing me to independent Canadian hip hop. Interesting themes beyond booty and bling—real estate bubbles, bamboo, science degrees. Try Buck 65 (Feists dance partner), Wilderness CrewSweatshop Union and my favourite so far: Edmonton's poet laureate, Cadence Weapon.

If there's one thing I've learned in my 67 years, it's that forward-thinking, rebellious youngsters never change and neither do the old people who hate them. Good on ya, kid!
